Opening Miami, and what we learned along the way.

When we opened our first US store on NE 54th Street in Miami, we thought we were bringing a Canadian playbook south. Saskatoon taught us the craft; Miami taught us everything else. A few of the lessons that now shape every Sneakky Klean location.

Humidity changes the job

Miami's climate is a different opponent. Humidity feeds odor and mildew, salt air works on hardware and glue, and afternoon downpours soak suede that never fully dries in a closet. Our Miami intake process now checks for moisture damage by default, and drying protocols we developed there are standard at every store.

Sneaker culture is local

Wynwood collectors, Brickell professionals, and Kendall families bring different pairs and different priorities. The lesson: never assume what a customer means by clean. The consultation at drop-off, two minutes of asking what matters about this pair, became the most valuable step in our process, and it is why mail-in orders include a notes field we actually read.

Trust is built on the report

The habit that converted Miami skeptics into 4.9-star regulars was the before and after condition report with photographs. People do not hand over four-figure pairs to a stranger; they hand them to a process they can see.

The demand was never just local

Within months, boxes were arriving from Orlando, Atlanta, and Texas. That demand is why the mail-in program grew into a service covering every city in the US, and why franchising became part of the plan. Miami was the proof: professional sneaker care is not a big-city luxury, it is an underserved national habit.
