The case for repair over replace.

Extending the life of every pair is the most sustainable choice you can make. The numbers behind the belief.

The case for repair over replace.

The average American throws away roughly 70 pairs of shoes in a lifetime, and most were not worn out. They were worn down: dirty, scuffed, a little separated at the sole, and cheaper to replace than to think about. We run a business built on the opposite bet, and the math is on our side.

The economics, honestly

A $180 pair retired after 18 months costs $10 a month to own. The same pair with a $49.99 Signature Clean twice a year and one $30 treatment typically doubles its serviceable life, dropping the cost to around $7 a month while looking better the whole time. For limited pairs the math is not even close: you cannot re-buy a 2016 release at retail, but you can restore one for a fraction of resale.

What repair can actually save

People are surprised by what comes back from the bench. Separated soles reglue. Yellowed midsoles reverse. Scuffed paint gets color-matched by hand. Crushed heels rebuild. Odor that survived the washing machine does not survive professional extraction. The honest exceptions: blown-out knit uppers and midsole foam that has structurally collapsed. We will tell you in the quote if a pair is past saving.

The sustainability part is not a slogan

Footwear is among the hardest products to recycle because every shoe is a glued sandwich of mixed materials. The greenest sneaker is the one that stays out of the landfill. Extending a pair's life by two years does more than any recycling program can.

Before you replace a pair you liked enough to wear out, price the repair. Start with a free quote, or ship them straight to the bench with our mail-in service from anywhere in the US.
