Fixing shoes with glue at home

Flexible shoe adhesives sold at pharmacies and hardware stores can hold a small lifted edge for a while. For a better temporary fix:

1. Clean and fully dry both surfaces. Glue will not hold to dirt.
2. Use an adhesive made for shoes, which stays flexible. Super glue cracks as the sole bends.
3. Clamp or weigh down the repair for as long as the label says.

When the sole has come away along a large section, or on a pair you care about, a professional re-glue is cleaned, re-bonded, and pressed properly, so it lasts longer than a quick fix.

Heels and dress shoes

We specialize in sneakers. Heel tip replacement and resoling on dress shoes and heels are traditional cobbler work, and a local shoe repair shop is usually the right place for them. We do clean and restore leather and dress shoes. See leather shoe cleaning.
